From the Negotiating Table to War: A Researcher’s Perspective

As a researcher and university professor specializing in AI and Computational Engineering, I spend my life doing research and teaching to my students. I have always strived to create a classroom environment that disregards nationality, gender, and ethnicity. A class is a place where we gather to learn from one another, which is why such issues do not exist there. Unfortunately, in the political world, they still matter.

I am currently based in Iran. After years of conflict between the US and Iran, the two sides were engaged in negotiations to resolve at least a part of their differences. I heard news from both sides that those negotiations were proceeding smoothly with the hope of positive results. However, suddenly in the middle of the talks, the US and Israel launched an attack on Iran, which triggered an Iranian reaction and the outbreak of war.

I cannot understand the logic of those who make the decision to ignite a war instead of remaining at the negotiation table to make progress toward better relations.

The High Cost of Conflict

War is not a sterile equation. It does not just affect governments or armies; it ravages the innocent. When the option of war is exercised, the cost is paid in human lives. Infrastructure that took decades to build is turned to dust in moments. Families are displaced, and the safety of millions is shattered.

Nations do not want war. People, regardless of their nationality, language, or religion, despise conflict. They want to live, to work, and to raise their children in peace. When leaders decide to bypass the negotiating table and resort to violence, they are acting against the fundamental will of their own people. It is our collective responsibility to voice our opposition to such decisions and to demand that diplomacy be given a chance.

Science Knows No Borders

I am a teacher. That is my identity, and that is my mission. In my eyes, a student is a student—nothing more, nothing less. I do not care about your nationality, your race, or your borders. Science does not recognize these lines, and neither do I.

I welcome every single one of my students with open arms. Whether you are in my home country of Iran or thousands of miles away, you are part of my academic community. We are connected by the pursuit of knowledge, a bond that is stronger than politics or distance.

I will pursue these classes without interruption. I will not allow a single session to be missed, nor will I leave a single topic untaught. If necessary, I will record every lecture and ensure the content reaches my students in full. The quality of your education will not be compromised.

To all my students

Stay active, stay engaged, and continue your journey. We will navigate these challenges together, and we will emerge stronger.
